229 Millionaires Made in 2011
229 new instant millionaires were made in 2011 across the UK thanks to the National Lottery, making this the luckiest year on record.
They say ‘it could happen to you’ and for 229 lucky lottery players … it did!
Camelot, the official lottery firm for the National lottery has told that it paid out £720million in 2011, changing people’s lives forever.
It has without a doubt been an exceptional year for lottery results in the UK.
A spokesperson for National Lottery has said "There have been some huge prizes paid out during the last 12 months and we’ve also been told that many of our big winners have created additional millionaires themselves as a result of their win, which is fantastic.”
In 2010 the number of millionaires made stood at 158 and in 2011 saw that number beat by a massive 71 new millionaires.
An end of year lotto study revealed builders, administrators and transport drivers are the luckiest players. Those born under the sign of Taurus, between April 10 and May 20, have landed the most jackpots. And 60% of the big winners were men.
More than a third (34%) of jackpot winners claimed to have received a "sign" that they were about to come into money.
The Lottery has created more than 2,750 millionaires since it began in 1994. It has also raised £25billion for good causes.
