Euromillions Winner Revealed!
It is official; the UK has a new 418th placeholder on the Sunday Times Rich List. Colin and Chris Weir; a Scottish couple from Largs in Ayrshire were the official winners of the £161m Euromillions jackpot.
This is a record breaking win! The largest jackpot in Euromillions history has been taken out in one foul swoop by a regular, middle class couple in Scotland.
“We were excited, exhilarated, we couldn’t sleep” the couple said.
The massive jackpot was capped after several rollovers occurred over a few weeks. It is the biggest lottery prize that Europe has ever seen and will be for a long time to come.
Chris discovered the amazing lotto win at around midnight on the night of the draw; she was checking the couple’s numbers on the BBC’s Red Button digital text service.
“I started circling the numbers I had matched but wasn’t doing very well. The on the fifth line, all the circles seemed to join up.”
At such a late hour, the Camelot telephone lines were of course closed so they sat up all night long, far too excited to sleep. Apparently it felt like a dream when they discovered the win and “everything went into slow motion.”
The life changing Lotto win comes with great responsibility, something that Chris and Colin will have to take very seriously. They are still unsure of that they will do with all of this money; they are the first to admit that they are not flashy people and know that the next few steps are going to be very difficult.
But they do have grand dreams of travel, they both want to see the Great Wall of China and Colin would love to stand at the foot of Uluru in Central Australia. With £161m it is sure that they will be travelling in style. Their kids who are in their 20s will both get new homes bought for them as well!
The winning lottery numbers from the Tuesday night Euromillions draw that saw this unemployed Scottish couple rise to levels of wealth that are seemingly out of this world were 6, 26, 33, 34 and 39 with the supplementary numbers of 3 and 4.
Prior to this win, the biggest lottery ever won in the UK was in October 2010, the anonymous Euromillions winner took home the jackpot of £113m.
National Lottery operator Camelot runs the Euromillions draw in the UK since 1994 and in the past two years, the Brits have taken out 14 of the Euromillions jackpot in the past 2 years. In the past 17 years, Camelot report s that it has made over 2,400 millionaires in the UK.
