  7. Social Media and Plug-Ins

LRN Websites use social plug-ins (“plug-ins”) from the social media networks Facebook (www.facebook.com) and Twitter (www.twitter.com).

On some pages of LRN Websites, or when you use any of the LRN social media channels, third parties that provide content, applications or plug-ins through LRN Websites may track your use of content, applications and plug-ins, or customize content, applications and plug-ins for you.

    Facebook

LRN Websites use plugins provided by the social network facebook.com, operated by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”).

The plugins are identifiable by a Facebook logo (white letter f on blue background or a thumb up icon) or the notice “Facebook Social Plugin”. For a full list of all social Plugins please see https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins.

When you visit a page of LRN Websites that contains a social plugin, your browser establishes a direct connection to Facebook servers. Facebook directly transfers the plugin content to your browser, which embeds the latter into the website, enabling Facebook to receive information that you have accessed the respective page of LRN Websites. LRN has no influence on the data gathered by the plugin.

The embedded plugins provide Facebook with the information that You have accessed the corresponding page of LRN Websites. If you are logged into Facebook, your visit can be assigned to your Facebook account. If you interact with the plugins, for example by clicking “Like”, or entering a comment, the corresponding information is transmitted from your browser directly to Facebook and stored by Facebook. Even if you are not logged into Facebook, there is possibility that the plugins transmit your IP-address to Facebook.

For the information on the purpose and scope of data collection and procession by Facebook, as well as your rights in this respect and settings options for protecting your privacy please visit Facebook's privacy policy: https://www.facebook.com/policy.php.

If you are a Facebook member and do not want Facebook to connect the data concerning your visit to LRN Websites with your member data already stored by Facebook, please log off Facebook before entering LRN Websites. You can also block Facebook social Plugins by using add-ons for your browser, like the “AdBlock Plus“.

LRN Websites use the "+1″ button provided by the social network Google Plus that is operated by Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States ("Google"). The button is identifiable through the "+1″ sign on a white or coloured background.

When you visit a page of LRN Websites that contain such a plugin, your browser connects directly with the servers of Google. The content of the "+1″ plugin is transmitted directly to your browser from Google, which is then used to incorporate it into the website. LRN has no influence on the data gathered by the plugin through the button.

According to Google, if one does not click on the button, no personal data is collected. Such data, including the IP address, is only collected and processed for logged-in members.

The purpose and extent of data collection, the further processing and use of data by Google, as well as your rights in this regard and the various possible settings to protect your privacy can be found in Google's data protection guidelines concerning the "+1" button:

If You are a Google Plus member and do not wish for Google to use our Internet presence as a way to collect information about you and to link this information with the membership data about you which Google has stored, then you must log out of Google Plus before visiting LRN Websites.

    Twitter

LRN Websites use the “Twitter Tweet Button” provided by MediaSift Ltd, Building L033, London Road, University of Reading, Reading, RG1 5AQ, United Kingdom. The button can be recognized by its twitter logo (a white "t" on a blue background or a white "little bird", both perhaps connected with the addition of "Tweet").

With the “Twitter Tweet Button”, Twitter users can share LRN Websites via Twitter. The button also shows the number of tweets for each comment made.

When you visit a page on LRN Websites that includes such a plugin, your browser connects directly with the servers at MediaSift. The content of the “Twitter Tweet Button” is transferred from MediaSift directly to your browser, which incorporates it into the website. LRN has no influence on the amount of data gathered by MediaSift through this plugin, and provide this information to the best of our knowledge, which is that only the IP address of your connection and the URL of our page are transmitted when the button is acquired, but are not used for purposes other than display of the button.
